A word of caution – there are some folks who are having respiratory issues of a variety of kinds. If you are having any symptoms, please stay home, and we will bring Communion to you. This would be a kindness to the vulnerable in our congregation.

Based upon guidelines from the LA County Health Department and State authorities, we encourage those with heightened vulnerabilities to wear masks. Ascension offers Communion at the rail and provides the option of small glasses to be filled from the common cruet.  Please note that the practice of intinction (where a parishioner dips the bread in the wine) is not permitted under the diocesan guidelines.

A PRAYER FOR PEACE IN THE HOLY LAND: Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but the strength of love: So mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that all peoples may be gathered under the banner of the Prince of Peace, as children of one Father; to whom be dominion and glory, now and for ever. Amen.   The Book of Common Prayer (page 815)

A Prayer for Ukraine:  God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.  Amen  (Archbishops Justin Welby & Stephen Cottrell)

FROM THE TRANSITION COMMITTEE-
  • Parish Survey
The first step in the transition/search process is the completion of a Parish Survey.  Completing this survey is your opportunity to voice your opinions and desires. The views you share with us are very important as the accuracy of the combined surveys will help guide the committee in the compilation of the Parish Profile, which is in essence our PR piece to be posted.

This survey is now available online on the church website and paper copies can be found at the back of the church and on the reception table in Hawks Hall.  The deadline to turn in the survey is Sunday, September 20th.

If you have questions in the meantime, please feel free to ask any of the Transition Committee members: Scott Callihan, Susan Clifton, Lynne Holl, Jon Prentice, Jean Rowe, Rob Stockly, and Walker Williams.

Friends In Deed is lower than ever on food.  Please join in Ascension’s Monthly Collection of specific “Gold Items”. They include canned tuna and chicken, hearty soups, stew, chili, pasta and pasta sauce, peanut butter, cereal, rice, oil, sugar, flour, fruit juice, and vegetable juice (V8).

THURSDAY MORNING MASS on September 24th is CANCELLED.

RECTOR'S FORUM will meet at 9am on Thursday, September 24th in the Rector's office.

2026 ALTAR FLOWERS AND SANCTUARY CANDLES SIGN-UP SHEETS are on the bulletin board outside Hawks Hall.

WEEKLY PRAYER: Grant us, Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
